Allowance Game
The
Allowance game is a wonderful tool that you can use to teach a
phenomenal amount of information about finances and wealth to your
children. You can use it to break bad habits, stop your kids from
spending all of YOUR money, teach the value of money, teach your
child how to become a wise consumer, and teach a work ethic. I know
you’re thinking “Yeah, right!” But read further, and you will
understand why I make these strong assertions!
Paying for Chores with
Allowance
Figuring out how much to pay your child is easy. Beginning right
now, write down how much you spend from this point forward on things
for your child that are not “necessities” – things like candy,
videos, toys, CDs, trinkets, and other extras. Also, write down the
things that your child asks for that (would) require you to spend
money. To the best of your ability, write down what you have spent
on these things in the past month for each of your children. Keep
this list in a place where you can easily update and refer to it.

What Should You Pay Your Child For?
As
a parent, you must decide what ways you deem appropriate for your
child to earn money. There are many different ways to pay your
children, and it depends on their personalities, habits, attitudes,
and the choices they make on a daily basis. I’ll use my children as
an example. Both my kids can earn $14.00 a week base pay. Do they?
NEVER! Nevertheless, they could earn this amount if they did
everything I am willing to pay for.
An
essential part of your children understanding the value of money, is
through earning money. Prosperity4Kids, Inc. has compiled a
